Incumbent Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Burbank appeared to be poised for re-election in early returns Tuesday night. Republican challenger Eric Early was trailing in a distant second, followed by Democrat G. “Maebe A. Girl” Pudlo, Republican William Bodell, No Party Preference candidate Jennifer Barbosa and Democrats Ara Khachig Manoogian, Sal Genovese and Chad D. Anderson.
Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, who became the focus of ire of President Donald Trump and his supporters for his role in the impeachment effort against the president.
That role has elevated him to household-name status, as he was at the forefront of the effort to try and convict Trump, who was impeached in the House for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in its investigation of his dealings with Ukraine. Trump was acquitted in the Senate.
That status does not appear to have hurt his re-election prospects in the district, which includes Burbank, Glendale, Sunland-Tujunga and West Hollywood.
